The leaders and activists of the Truck Owners' Association blocked the road by throwing trucks on the road in protest of the arrest of truck driver and member secretary of the Association Shamim in a student murder case during the Narayanganj anti-discrimination movement.
They blocked the road in the city's Mandalpara area since Thursday (December 5) morning. The workers said that the blockade will not be lifted unless Shamim is released.
The transport workers have been blocking the road by throwing trucks at random until 12 noon at the time of writing this report. The Sadar Model Police Station is trying to convince them to move them off the road.
Earlier, on Wednesday (December 4) night, the Fatullah Model Police Station arrested Shamim in a murder case.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Fatullah Model Police Station Shariful Islam said that an accused named Shamim has been arrested in a murder case during the anti-discrimination movement.
Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nasir said, "We are trying to remove them from the road. No accused has been arrested in our police station, I heard that they have been arrested in Fatullah Model Police Station. We have been asked not to block the protest here."
